A Partnership in Observational and Computational Astronomy

The PAARE Summer 2008 Internship Program

May 21 - July 25, 2008
South Carolina State University, Orangeburg, SC

summer 08 interns
<<-- Patrick Durant, Graham Davis and Joshua Davis

A total of three students participated this summer, all as Tier 1 students. The three SCSU students, Graham Davis, Joshua Davis and Patrick Durant, participated as Tier 1 students at SCSU.

Graham and Joshua worked under the mentorship of Dr. Jennifer Cash examining various techniques to apply to fitting light curves to RV Tauri stars. Their work resulted in a student poster at the American Astronomical Society meeting in Long Beach, CA, in January 2009.

Patrick worked under the guidance of Dr. Donald Walter. He examined spectra of RV Tauri stars obtained over several years by Dr. Steve Howell and collaborators using the Coude Feed Telescope at KPNO. Patrick’s work was presented in Nashville, TN, in February 2009, at the joint meeting of the National Society of Black Physicists and the National Society of Hispanic Physicists.
