Dr. Donald K. Walter

 

 

 

Walter has been involved in NASA research and grantsmanship since 1987. Since arriving at SCSU in 1994, he has received over $8 million in funding from NASA for research, education and outreach projects.

Walter was awarded a NASA Faculty Fellowship in 2004 and spent 10 weeks studying comets at the Goddard Center for Astrobiology which is part of the Laboratory for Extraterrestrial Physics at the Goddard Space Flight Center.

 

 

 

 

 

Recent astrophysical research by Walter includes the following collaborations:

• a study of comets using infrared spectra to determine temperatures, production rates and chemical abundances of carbon-bearing molecules,
  
• an archival award using Cycle-1 data from the Spitzer Space Telescope for a project entitled: "The Far-Infrared Properties of A Large Radio Selected Sample in the SIRTF-FLS,"
• study of the physical diagnostics and chemical abundances of the interstellar medium, specifically HII regions and shell nebulae (link),
  
• the morphology and physical diagnostics of the interstellar medium in starburst galaxies such as NGC 1569 (link).
